Core businesses

 Simulation systems software development

The main focus of Artifex is the development of cost effective military simulation systems. We deliver training solutions for individual soldiers and up to corps level units as well. We use low cost PC based technology even for the most complex constructive simulation system.
Our customers are those military users, who look for elaborated, state-of-the-art, customized solutions based on COTS or low-cost hardware for their training needs.

 Military expert software development

Based on our twenty year experience on knowledge engineering we are developing military expert software, which includes among others the functions of a terrain assessment GIS system and a database of military equipments and weapons containing items from pistol ammunition to aircraft carriers. This workgroup system supports the military decision making process executed at different levels of the military organization structure.

 Support services

In close cooperation with Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH we take part in the Hungarian installation, training and support of RDE’s command and control system.

We have developed an operating technology for our Marcus CAX simulation system by customizing and improving the international experiences. The Simulation Centre of the Hungarian Defence Forces has been using it from about 10 years. From 2000 to 2010 our professional military team consisting of retired high ranking officers knowing this technology, the different doctrines and the particulars of the simulation system provided the operation support, the introduction and training of the simulation as well.

Artifex is world-wide known for its MARCUS constructive simulator. The CAX (Computer Aided eXercise) driver and combat simulation development

started in the ‘90s, since then several hundreds man-years of work of competent experts has been built into the software. As one of the World’s most sophisticated entity level simulator system it has hundreds of features, like: conventional warfare, MOUT, combat service support, CBRN and electronic warfare, air warfare and air defence, naval forces, MOOTW, SASO.

Our another constructive simulation is the ZEUS Artillery tactical and fire control simulation. It is based on Marcus, so the two systems can be connected natively. The first version of the simulation was deployed in 1993; from then on this has provided nearly the only training possibility for the Hungarian artillery units other than the rare live fires.

The MARCUS and the ZEUS has been used in the officers’ training courses of the Hungarian Defence Forces for about 10 years. Troops that take part in the international missions have also been prepared using these systems.

Artifex has developed the MTR (Operation planning and control support) system as well. It facilitates the whole military planning and decision making process on computers, support the staff team work, and gives invaluable help to the military leaders during the execution of the prepared plans.

We have training solutions for those soldiers too who fight on the battlefield:

KRONOS 3D tactical simulator is a platoon level “serious game”, which is installed on a networked PC environment with a single joystick (without expensive weapon models and vehicle mockups). Squad and platoon leaders and its members can be trained how to cooperate in a combat.
It also provides detailed functions for individual training.

Orienteering Simulator Software is a reuse of our simulation technology. Navigation on the terrain with a map, compass and GPS can be practised on PCs in a classroom.

Computer based training materials
Our basic military training package is high quality, multimedia rich courseware with lots of lifelike 3D animations that can be integrated into any SCORM compatible learning management system. This package includes almost all subjects of the basic training that every soldier has to learn in the first 3 months of the army career. Our training materials are transferable, accessible with a Web browser, usable with popular multimedia players.

MARCUS is a comprehensive constructive simulation including detailed modelling of conventional combat and urban operations, combat service support, NBC and electronic warfare modelling, air warfare and air defence simulation, disaster relief, stability and support operation.

It is a simulation driver for multilevel training of corps / brigade / battalion commanders and their staff in CAX (Computer Assisted eXercise).

  • It trains corps, brigade and battalion commanders and their subordinate unit leaders to plan and prepare to fight.
  • It provides realistic results of combat operations to make trainees learn and practice all of NATO's command and control procedures.
  • It models both conventional combat operations and OOTW (Operations Other Than War).

It also provides an environment to teach and practice the battalion and company commanders, battalion staffs and subordinate unit leaders individually or in a team how to plan, make decisions and prepare to fight.

The simulation provides representa-tions of all aspects of the battlefield, physical objects and phenomena, as well as aspects of human behaviour, and has a user-friendly, easy to use menu-driven, windows-oriented user interface.

It features mixed high resolution representation (entities and aggregated company sized units).

Corps level simulation features mainly aggregated company sized units for the whole playbox (300x300 km) and entities for an included, selected, changeable brigade level area (100x100 km).

The MARCUS simulation in full extent runs on

  • 50 Windows XP® PC and on one or two Windows computational server in the Simulation Centre, distributed workstation groups at every brigades (using ISDN2 connections).
  • Distaff Control Sets (remote control and monitoring workstations) at the General Staff and the Land Forces Headquarters creating a unified virtual battlefield.

MARCUS capacity is about to keep 40 corps, brigade and/or battalion exercises (3-5 days) in a year with preparation and AAR procedures altogether.

zeus 1

zeus 2

Zeus 2 is a multi-mode artillery tactical and fire control constructive simulation used for teaching and training artillery battalion, battery officers and reconnaissance soldiers in team or in personal exercises.

It is a teaching and training tool for the artillery battalion/battery commanders.

ZEUS 2 is a simulation to teach and practice the battalion and battery commanders individually or in a team how to plan, make decisions and execute fire missions.

During the execution it provides realistic results of the fire missions calculating the terrain, target properties, the preset weather and ballistic condition.

It is a training tool for reconnais-sance soldiers and fire observation officers.

Officers can observe and measure the targets and clouds of explosions, adjust the fire.
Practice the co-operation with the battery commander

It is a connecting device for participation in a CAX .

Connects to Marcus CAX simulation, develops team spirit between the trainees and the land force commanders participating in combat or OOTW scenario CAX training via the usage of ISDN interface.
